Fall Family Photography in Maryland

Whether I've been photographing your family for the past 18 years or we're meeting for the very first time, I want your session to feel like your family.
Fall gives us a pretty incredible backdrop, but the colorful leaves are only part of the story. I want the beautiful family portraits and everything that happens in between. The ridiculous laughs, snuggles, kids being kids, dog chaos, and the moments you couldn't plan if you tried.
With two hours, there's no need to rush. We have time to explore, play, make some beautiful portraits and let everyone settle in and actually be themselves.
The result is part family portrait and part time capsule of who you are right now.

What do we actually do for two hours?
Two hours doesn't mean two hours of posing.
We're not spending two hours telling your kids to look at the camera and smile. We'll wander. Play. Explore. Throw leaves. Let the kids run. Give everyone a snack. Take a break. Let the dog do whatever ridiculous thing the dog is inevitably going to do.
I'll step in when we need direction and create the beautiful family portraits you came for. Then I'll step back and photograph what happens when everyone stops worrying about the camera.

Where do Fall Family Sessions happen?
We can meet at one of my favorite fall locations around Frederick, Maryland, choose a place that's special to your family, or I can help you find a spot that fits you perfectly.
And don't rule out staying home! Some of my favorite family sessions happen right in a family's own house or backyard. It's where your kids are most comfortable, your pets can join in, and your actual life happens.
Beautiful fall leaves are great but your family is the part I'm really there to photograph.
FAQ
What happens if it rains?
I only open a maximum of 2 photo sessions per day which means we always have a bit of wiggle room to move the time of our shoot. However, if it is a total rain out I always recommend moving to another date.
What should we wear?
Wear something that feels like you. You don't need matching outfits or a perfectly coordinated Pinterest color palette. Layers, textures and colors that work together photograph beautifully in the fall, but comfort matters most especially for kids. If your child hates what they're wearing, we're all going to know about it. Try to avoid giant logos, distracting graphics and everyone wearing the exact same thing. Beyond that, don't overthink it. And if you need help, send me photos of what you're considering! I'm always happy to help you pull everything together.
Can we bring our dog?
YES, of course! We just need to make sure the location we will be photographing allows pups! Don’t forget to bring some treats for your furry friend!
How many photographs will we receive?
It’s hard to give a number because it always depends on your little one. Sometimes edited galleries are around 125 images and sometimes there are as many as 400.
My kids won't last two hours. Is that a problem?
Not at all! Two hours doesn't mean two hours of sitting still, smiling and looking at the camera. That sounds terrible for everyone. We'll explore, play, take snack breaks, let the kids run around and give everyone time to warm up to the camera. If someone needs a break, we take a break. If you are running a little late that is ok too! All of that is part of the session and honestly, some of my favorite photographs happen when nobody is trying to take a photograph. The extra time means we don't have to rush or force anything. Your kids get to be kids, and I get to photograph who they really are.
What is the turnaround for your photos?
The turn around for galleries is 2 weeks maximum. However, I always try my best to get any sessions photographed before Thanksgiving to my clients in time for Cyber Monday sales.
